• If your score on a scale is 1-3, you are fairly well balanced on the two dimensions of that scale.
• If your score on a scale is 5-7, you have a moderate preference for one dimension of the scale and will learn more easily in a teaching environment which favors that dimension.
• If your score on a scale is 9-11, you have a very strong preference for one dimension of the scale. You may have real difficulty learning in an environment which does not support that preference.
My Learning Style! Is the test accurate for me??
1. What is your learning style? What sorts of learning experiences would suit you best with your learning style?
My learning style is strongly associated to one style. I learn best when I see the information and able to manipulate and experiment with what I am learning about. Learning experiences that would suit my learning style best is interactive learning. This learning style is common especially at a young age. Teachers who teach young children would use this a lot so the children can look at the object from different ways and see how it moves and feels.
2. In a traditional classroom of 25 students, how would you support the range of learning styles each lesson?
Teachers can incorporate both learning styles into their teaching to accommodate for most learners. This can be done by the teacher drawing pictures and showing the students objects and having hands on activities as well as discussing the topic in-depth with the students and having activities where the students can read about the topic and respond in a written way. As a teacher it is best to incorporate both learning styles into your teaching style to accommodate for most students.
3. With your current knowledge of ICT, how could your design and digital pedagogy support your learners better?
My current knowledge of ICT is very minor and I have difficulties working out where all the buttons are to edit and save and insert pictures and videos. However with my brief knowledge about digital technology I would be able to design a digital learning experience to support my learners better by creating a power point presentation and inserting a voice over and some engaging pictures and videos. I could also have links to website pages to bring up more information about the topic. I could save this to G drive and this allows all students to access this power point. The students can then go watch the power point and access the hyperlinked web pages I have inserted into the power point. This can support learners better by allowing them to find more in-depth knowledge about the topic. This would also suit a range of learners as a voice over for auditory learners, pictures for visual learners and hands-on activity with accessing the power point and information for kinaesthetic learners.
4. What sorts of profiling questions would you be asking about your learners to ensure you cater for everyone's preferences?
The sort of questions I would ask about learners to ensure I am catering for everyone’s learning style would be do they like reading, listening to stories, or watching movies? This will enable me to grasp if they are auditory, visual or kinaesthetic learners. As well as asking more question like do they like working in groups, have discussions, working individually, giving group presentations or do they like looking at pictures? All these sort of questions can help profile what sort of learner the student is and how they are going to learn best.
5. How does ICT support differences in learning styles?
ICT can support a range of learners, as it has a vast variety of applications. The list is endless. Digital doesn’t just refer to internet. It refers to all sorts of things that technology relates to. For instant mobile phones have access to the internet and on the internet endless amounts of information and sources for knowledge are available. This information is available in videos, you-tubes, voice over’s, pictures, written information, graphs, surveys ECT. So ICT dose support all learners and all learners can hugely benefit from using these tools that are readily available.
6. You may wish to post an OPTIONAL posting in your blog identifying your own learning style, the accuracy of the test, and a reflection on the implication for online learning design.
My learning style is very hands on and visual. If I am spoken to the words start sounding like BLAH BLAH BLAH…. And I start to fall asleep. The test was very accurate. Online learning can be beneficial for most learners however there are many implication for instant getting distracted, being off task, researching inappropriate things and bullying other students. If a detection was invented for when students were accessing these sorts of sites (for instant many schools block certain sites to avoid such behaviour) then these sorts of technologies could be implemented into the classroom learning experiences without worry of such behaviour occurring. Also many teachers would support this type of learning as it would save paper and printing worksheets and assignments. The teachers could set work sheets on specific site and the students could email it to her when they done for the teacher to check the answers. This could really be a very environmentally safe and positive way of the future!
