My Teaching Experience:
Through my prac day visits at Toolooa State High School, I have taught many lessons. At the beginning I was finding it hard to engage learners and help them understand how different social issues can affect others. After studying this Managing E-Learning course I started to embed YouTube’s into my lesson planning. I saw a dramatic change! It was a fantastic change!! The learners were interested and actually understood what other were feeling and thinking. For example: in a grade 12 HPE theory class, they were learning about sociology: Body image and how media affects people’s body image. I used a YouTube and it showed people talking about how they felt and what they keep seeing in the media and how this affects what they do to themselves.
The YouTube had music and sound and voice recordings in the background. So this catered for auditory learners. The visual video catered for visual learners and the video had written text throughout the video. This can help cater for these learners! After we discussed the video and the students actually contributed what they thought and started to deepen their thinking into how the media can affect people! I found this a great lesson because of the assistance of the ICT tool YouTube!
